The quality of a paint job shows in the preparation rather than in the paint. Skip the filling, sanding and priming and the result looks fine for a year; by the second year every flaw under the surface has worked its way through.

What We Watch For
The details that decide the quality
Primer is never skipped
Primer is what lets the paint grip the surface and cover the colour underneath. Without it the paint lifts sooner, and going from a dark shade to a light one takes more coats than it should.
Damp is dealt with before painting
If there are damp patches or mould on a wall, paint hides them rather than fixing them. Painted over without finding the source, whether a leak, missing insulation or poor ventilation, the same patch blisters again within months.
Protection is part of the job
Furniture, floors and socket plates are covered before we start. No paint marks are left at the end; the clean-up is part of the handover.

Can we stay in the house while it is painted?
Usually yes. We can work room by room so that part of the home stays usable throughout. If anyone is sensitive to the smell, tell us at the start and we plan around it.
How many coats do you apply?
It depends on the state of the surface and the colour change. Going from one light shade to another two coats is usually enough; putting a light colour over a dark one takes more. We write this clearly into the quotation.
Is washable paint really washable?
Paints in the washable class stand up to surface cleaning far better than standard paint, and the difference is obvious in homes with children and in hallways. Promising that every mark will come off completely would be dishonest, though: the type of mark and how long it has been there both matter.
