Choosing a System
Sliding or Folding, Which One Fits Your Balcony??
Glass balcony systems come in two forms. Sliding panels that glide past one another on a rail, and folding panels that stack to one side. Two questions settle which one suits you. Will you use this space through the winter, and do you want the balcony fully open in summer?
Sliding system
Panels glide past one another on a rail, so the opening stays partial depending on the panel count. This is the more practical choice on narrow balconies and for everyday ventilation. Because the panels travel along the rail, both faces of the glass can be cleaned from inside.
Folding system
Panels fold and stack to one side, leaving the balcony largely open. It works well on wider balconies and terraces, and suits anyone who wants the space open in summer and enclosed in winter.
Double or single glazing?
This is settled before the system is chosen. If the space will serve as a sitting area through the winter, a double-glazed system is needed. If the aim is shelter from wind, rain and dust, standard single glazing is enough. It is one of the first questions we ask during the survey.

Frequently asked about glass balcony systems
Sliding or folding?
A folding system stacks the panes to one side and opens the balcony completely, which matters if you want it open in summer. A sliding system runs on tracks and does not open fully, but it is simpler to use. The decision follows whether you will use the balcony in winter as well.
What does an insulated unit change?
A sealed unit reduces heat transfer through the cavity between the panes. If you plan to use the balcony as an enclosed room the difference is noticeable; if you only want shelter from rain and wind, single glazing may be enough. Insulated systems are heavier, so the balustrade and the floor have to suit.
How are the measurements taken?
On site, because balustrade heights and corner angles differ from building to building. Glass systems are made to those measurements and do not tolerate approximations. The survey and the quotation are free.
Does condensation form in winter?
Condensation can occur in any enclosed space that is not ventilated. Systems are set up with a ventilation allowance and the balcony should be aired from time to time. Where laundry is dried on the balcony the moisture load is higher, so this matters more.
What is the most common mistake?
Ordering without having the measurements taken on site. The second is choosing a system on price alone, because on an exposed elevation a weak frame causes trouble quickly.
How long does glass balcony installation take?
For a standard balcony it is typically 3 to 5 days from measuring to handover. The fitting itself takes 1 to 2 days on most balconies, and the difference is the production time for the system. Balcony size, floor level and system type all shift this. After fitting, allow around a day for the silicone to cure.
Does a glass balcony provide sound and heat insulation?
Standard tempered glass fully blocks wind and rain and significantly reduces noise. If extra heat/sound insulation is needed, we offer a double-glazed option.
Can you renew my existing glass balcony?
We can. Removing the old system, replacing rails and profiles, renewing a broken panel and redoing the gaskets all fall within scope. Sometimes the existing rail turns out to be sound and only the panels and seals need replacing. The survey settles that.
Can mosquito nets or curtains be fitted as well?
They can. On request we plan mosquito nets, curtain rails and shutters together with the glass balcony system. Setting them out from the start rather than adding them afterwards looks tidier and saves a second round of labour.
Do I need permission from the building management or neighbours?
In apartment buildings, approval from the owners' association is usually required. Transparent systems that don't change the façade's appearance are generally approved without issue. We recommend checking the exact rule with your building management.
